I try to do.
I have three TBIs under my belt.
First one was severe. I was 15 when it happened, and I spent 9 1/2 months in-patient in a hospital. But once I got out I was back on my feet working hard to rehab.
Second one was "mild", except when it happened I had a wife, three step-kids, a small business with three employees, and was going to college. My wife told me she was leaving me while I was calling her telling her of the accident, literally stark naked on a gurney waiting for a CAT scan. I got home the next day. The next day after I got home she came by with her brother in law and they packed her stuff and she left. Never saw her again. I found that close to $30,000 was missing from my business, and when that disappeared it destroyed my business. I couldn't mentally handle running my business, handle my college courses, and handle my rehab at the same time. A couple years ago I was able to finish one of those courses via distance learning and was able to pull a 4.0 on the final paper.
Third one was just a year and a half back. It was a 4 on the scale I was shown, describing the severity of it-
1. Mild
2. Mild-Moderate
3. Moderate
4. Moderate-Severe
5. Severe
6. Severe-Critical
7. Critical (this is where one never leaves the hospital and requires 24-7 trained care)

I used to be the general manager of a large store, and I could work 6 days a week 8 hours a day. Now, I can't do more than 2 days a week 8 hours a day. In the past I have always rehab'd. Now, I'm not sure if I can.

Even then I am still a volunteer team member of the county search and rescue. No one person is recognized for saving lives unless their specific individual actions are the sloe reason for saving a life. Otherwise it is attributed to the entire team that is called out and present for the mission. I mention that as to date the teams I have been on are credited with saving 8 lives this year alone.

Yeah, I'm a cripple. And the faces the rescued people have when they find out that a 100% disabled man is on the team that saved their hides! It really brings a new level of humility to them! I love it! Cool

I understand the humor in the "The Cripple" My family hates when I call myself that but thats just me. What a Great Start in your Intro. I just sent you a PM. For those that are reading this, I am Brian and also the admin of this site, I created this from a whim (which i do often). I have many talents because of my TBI but also I have many downfalls from TBI. I have learned to love myself for who I was and respect myself with living TBI. I learned that TBI is not just about me, but the love ones around me and even the ones that don't love me, it is part of me, it is called me with TBI. So awesome, for the Readers (so little) please Register for the forum. if you are unsure don't be, We all want to help each other in our walk of life. So Carl, What do you think that we should do as far as building the Forum or rules or any thing... I don't want to be a bossy butthead, do you have any group of people you can send here or emails? What should we include in this site? Peace and God Bless

Hello I wanted to say hi to every one. I know the problems with anger and how to control it. I often think about the fact that there is no one on earth who truly know what it's like to go through what each and every one of us has gone though. You see my battles with my TBI are not yours and yours are not mine. I know that to limit our selves through words like Cripple kills be to hear. There is a man who rode a hand bike across the country but he has no legs and only one arm. Another man has M.S. and entered in to the Iron Man competition in Hawie, sorry I cant spell worth a dang. I just wanted to coment on that.

I am sorry my name is Keven, I was in a car wreck at the age of 10 and if it wasn't for the fact that I was the age I was I am sure that it would have been really bad. I spent only a month in a coma and then after that they only kept me in the hospital for a month after that. I guess it is true that kids bounce. But I they never fully knew the problems that I would have after that. I spent 10 years in recovery. You See I was a Left Brain Dominant person, Swimmer, good at math and science, and after that accident I was a Right Brain. Well they rely don't under stand what to do with that. I mean the anger of having no drive for what you truly love and you don't know why you don't love it any more. You know I also had fear that wouldn't stop so I simply said that I wouldn't let anything stop me. I am now a father of one, college Grad, husband, and a very driven person. In the words of Roosevelt "I shall never surrender." And that from as you say a "Cripple". I dare you to say that he didn't succeed.

Welcome aboard CR! Gurls do those things to all men. Just that having a TBI makes it more noticeable to you and I than to the average person.

I must say though, I agree with your view on the accidents we've been in, but....we didn't die. We're here, so let's deal with it as best as we can. Nothing else that we can do CR.

Nice to have you CR! I am a person with TBI. People will accept your Brain Injury faster than you will sometimes. It seems its not fair in life.......Just a nice normal life...than....boom...it changes. It really make the change in us. How are we going to live our life after this.... Simple.... Just the way you will live it. Us....them... we have choices.. you have a choice about how you feel about yourself and the choices how your going to take each step in our life. A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. YOU HAVE A PURPOSE Otherwise you wouldn't have survived what you have survived from. send me a PM if you want to talk....I chat also

Ditto, Amigo! I have TBIs as well. I disagree with Brian though, as I just live with what I have. Others, they can't see it therefore it doesn't exist or is mental. True that mental illness and BIs go hand in hand, but you will find that with a broken leg and MI. A broken arm & MI. The TBI is the physical component while MI is the emotional component.

CR, welcome aboard buddy!

Right now I am looking into a newer type of physical therapy for TBI recipients that, if successful, could make a HUGE beneficial impact on the recovery and rehabilitation from TBIs. Cross your finge
